Ensemble Wünnespil 1998

The Ensemble Wünnespil ( mhd. Wuenne = "delight, joy" and spil = "play, performance", freely translated "joy in playing") specializes in music from the Middle Ages and was founded in 1995 by Jutta and Klaus Peill with Marc Lewon .

About the ensemble

The couple Peill played together since 1992 in the formation Liederlich 'Leut , to which Marc Lewon ( Nyckelharpa , Lute , Fidel , Saz , Schalmei, Tenor) joined in 1994. After its dissolution, the Ensemble Wünnespil was established in 1995 with a focus on music from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Just a few months after the founding, hurdy-gurdy player Knud Seckel ((“The Nightingale from Neckar Valley”) - hurdy-gurdy , shawm, bagpipe, tenor) joined the group; the following year the ensemble was completed by the entry of flutist Jutta Weber ( Gardon , percussion, flutes, shawm, alto).

Up until 2000 Wünnespil was at many medieval market events , as well as banquets and knight dinners . The ensemble was particularly well-known and popular because of its four- and five -part a cappella movements.

In 2000 the only CD of the Argentea ensemble was published by the musicians' publishing house. Much praised for its versatility, Argentea received a "BRAVO" from the French music magazine trad'magazine.

In 2001 the musicians parted ways: Marc Lewon studied early music in Basel, Jutta Weber then played with Filia Irata , Knud Seckel concentrated on his solo project Minnesangs Frühling . The three also played in the Trecento Ensemble, which disbanded in 2002.

Today the ensemble still consists of the founding members Jutta and Klaus Peill, occasionally supplemented by guest musicians.
