Wüstenrot life insurance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Wüstenrot life insurance was a German life insurance company based in Ludwigsburg . The company, which belonged to Wüstenrot Bausparkasse, was founded in 1969 and merged with Württembergische Lebensversicherung following the merger of the parent company into Wüstenrot & Württembergische 2000 .

Company history

In order to broaden the business base, Wüstenrot Bausparkasse founded the Wüstenrot Bank, a credit institution under CEO Walter Englert, in 1968 , which was followed by the start of life insurance business through Wüstenrot Lebensversicherung in 1969. This was a joint venture between Bausparkasse and Allianz Lebensversicherung , which held 40% of the shares in the company, and offered a wide range of types of insurance. In addition to classic endowment, annuity and pension insurance, the offer included in particular building society risk insurance and later also unit-linked life insurance. Under the founding board member Hans Laux , who was chairman between 1977 and 1994, the company established itself among the medium-sized German life insurance companies and in 1999 recorded premium income of 690 million DM from almost 860,000 insurance contracts .

In 1999, Wüstenrot merged with Württembergische. In this context, the newly formed financial services group agreed with Allianz in October 1999 to take over their share in life insurance at the turn of the year. The W&W parent company, which already holds 60% of the shares, took over 35%, the intermediate holding Wüstenrot Holding AG the remaining share. In this context, the intended merger of Wüstenrot Leben with Württembergische Lebensversicherung was announced. In the summer of 2000, following a resolution by the general meeting, the Ludwigsburg insurer's portfolio was merged with the Württembergische with retroactive effect from January 1st. The previous chairman of the board, Hans-Christian Duderstädt , subsequently took over board positions at Württembergische Lebensversicherung and Württembergische Versicherung , which he held until his retirement in 2002.
