Walter Englert

Walter Englert (born February 25, 1921 in Schwäbisch Hall ; † August 2, 2011 ) was a German manager in the financial services industry . As spokesman for the management, he ran the Wüstenrot Bausparkasse between 1968 and 1986 .

Career

Englert, the son of a pastor, graduated from high school in Ludwigsburg in 1939 before serving as an artillery officer until 1945 during World War II . After the end of the war, he studied law at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen until 1948 and, after completing his legal traineeship, began working for the financial administration of the state of Württemberg-Baden from 1951 . After a short period of service in the regional finance office in Stuttgart, he moved to the finance ministry of the newly founded state of Baden-Württemberg in 1953 .

In 1958, Englert moved to Wüstenrot as director. In January 1959 he was initially appointed deputy managing director and at the end of the year he was appointed full managing director. In 1968 he became the spokesman for the management of the Bausparkasse and in 1974 of the holding company. There he initiated a modernization course at the market leader, an example of which is the Wüstenrot skyscraper built in Ludwigsburg in the early 1970s as corporate headquarters with open- plan offices . In addition, he put the company's business areas on a broader footing, in 1968 the Wüstenrot Bank and 1969 the Wüstenrot Lebensversicherung were founded as subsidiaries. After retiring for reasons of age in 1986, he stayed with the company as a member of the supervisory board of the most important Wüstenrot companies. In addition, he sat on various supervisory and advisory bodies of various companies and associations, for example at the Baden-Württembergische Bank or the Baden-Württemberg regional directorate of Allianz Insurance . From 1968, Englert also chaired the Association of Private Building Societies , and from 1971 to 1974 he was also President of the International Building Societies Association.

In 1986 Englert was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg .
