Wladyslaw Matuszkiewicz

Władysław Józef Matuszkiewicz (born April 11, 1921 in Lemberg , †  October 11, 2013 ) was a Polish geobotanist and plant sociologist . Its botanical author's abbreviation is " Matuszk ".

Life

Wladyslaw Matuszkiewicz grew up in Częstochowa and moved to Lviv around 1935, where he attended high school. In 1939 he graduated from high school. During the German occupation in World War II, he worked at the Biological Institute of the University of Lviv with Professors Rudolf Weigl and Stanisław Kulczyński , where he also met his future wife. In 1945 he married Aniela Sadłowską. In 1946 he moved from Lemberg to the University of Breslau and in 1947 to the Maria Curie Skłodowska University in Lublin , where he initially found a job at the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Agriculture. Also in 1947 he was promoted to Dr. PhD.

In 1952 he received a call to the University of Warsaw , where he dealt with problems of plant sociology. The main research area was the vegetation conditions in the Białowieża National Park , where he set up a geobotanical station and in 1953 he also settled with his family.

He was the author of numerous works on vegetation and plant sociology. He also worked as a translator of geobotanical literature from German into Polish.

The city of Rinteln honored Matuszkiewicz as the first recipient of the Reinhold Tüxen Prize in 1987 .
