W. Alden Spencer Award

The W. Alden Spencer Award is a joint award of the medical faculty of Columbia University (Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons) , the Department of Neurosciences there and the Kavli Institute for Brain Sciences there . The award has been awarded for outstanding research in the neurosciences since 1978 and commemorates W. Alden Spencer, a physiologist and neurologist from Columbia University, who died in 1977 at the age of 46. The award is associated with a lecture (W. Alden Spencer Lecture) .

Nine of the award winners later received a Nobel Prize for Medicine or Chemistry (as of early 2019).
