Dickbuch is a village in the municipality of Elgg in the Winterthur district in the canton of Zurich , Switzerland . Before the merger of the municipalities of Elgg and Hofstetten on December 31, 2017, it was part of the latter.

geography

Dickbuch is located a little above Elgg in the Eulachtal on the Geitberg. It borders the villages of Elgg, Elsau and Hofstetten.

Via Dorfstrasse you can quickly reach the heavily trafficked St. Gallerstrasse, which leads to the Elgg community center. In contrast to Hofstetten, Dickbuch cannot be reached by public transport. The closest stops are the Elgg and Schottikon stations, which are served by the S12 ( Brugg AG - Zurich HB - Winterthur - Wil SG ) and the S35 (Winterthur - Elgg - Wil SG) of the Zurich S-Bahn .

The townscape is characterized by old timber frame buildings and farmhouses.

history

Dickbuch is mentioned for the first time in 805 as Dichipohc , which means "beech trees of dicho ".

In 1883 the local Dickbuch shooting club was founded. Together with the village population, he created a village coat of arms in 1965.

In 1884 the civil parish of Dickbuch submitted an application to the government council for separation from the community of Hofstetten and joining the community of Schottikon, which still existed at the time . However, this was rejected.

Until the end of 2017, Dickbuch belonged to the political municipality of Hofstetten. The building addresses in Dickbuch were still Dickbuch 482 (insurance number), 8354 Hofstetten ZH . With the merger with Elgg, the new village 8354 Dickbuch was created and street names were given. Thus the municipality of Hofstetten ZH was the last one in the canton of Zurich that did not have street names.

There is a restaurant in the village center.
