W. Ludwig Andrée

W. Ludwig Andrée (born February 3, 1877 in Recklinghausen ; † September 10, 1920 in Cologne ) was a German mechanical engineer and designer .

Andrée had a pronounced musical, drawing and poetic talent, gifts that he lived out in his youth. Nevertheless, he decided to pursue a technical profession, where he could use his drawing talent as a designer. After receiving her one-year certificate, Andrée attended a technical college and worked in the construction office of the Baum machine factory in Herne, which mainly dealt with machines for coal processing. He closed his knowledge gaps in technology through disciplined self-taught studies and a short visit to the TH Hannover . Later worked for the Kölner Maschinenbau AG , the Humboldt mechanical engineering company in Cologne-Kalk and at Demag in Duisburg . The engineering experience he had gathered in Duisburg prompted Andrée to publish his first book in 1908, Die Statik des Kranbaues , which had a second edition as early as 1913. Encouraged by his successes, he embarked on the path to self-employment but had to give it up again after the outbreak of the war and worked as a senior engineer at the Lauchhammer stock corporation in Lauchhammer and then at Hein, Lehmann and Cie. in Düsseldorf . He published other monographs that were very popular in steel and mechanical engineering design offices as well as in engineering offices. Andrée still worked for engineering magazines such as Fördertechnik , Brückenbau and Der Eisenbau . In 1919, he took over the editing of the latter magazine. As a recognized authority in the field of structural engineering , he received several offers from German universities, which Andrée declined. In terms of content and form, his publications on structural analysis of a wide variety of steel structures are style-defining for the industrial understanding of science in the accumulation phase of structural engineering from 1900 to around 1925. Andrée died as a result of an operation.
