WIHOGA Dortmund
The vocational college WIHOGA Dortmund , private business schools for the hotel, gastronomy, trade and services, offers training and further education opportunities. The WIHOGA is a state-recognized substitute school with the school types: hotel vocational school, business high school , hotel management assistants and business schools ( technical school ) for the hotel and restaurant industry and for the fashion trade. The headmaster is Harald Becker.
history
In 1955, the regional association DEHOGA NRW founded a school association that is responsible for this school. With the opening in November 1959, the first cornerstone was laid for training and further education opportunities in the hotel and catering sector. This hotel management school became the business school (WIHOGA) in 1971 and since then the state-certified business administration course (specializing in the hotel and catering industry) has been offered here, which is still the flagship of this technical school. In the course of time the offer was expanded and the hotel vocational school for basic vocational training was established. The additional course " Catering Management ", which was awarded the innovation prize, was created. In addition, after completing a state-certified business administration degree, students have the opportunity to complete an MBA in the USA at Johnson & Wales University, Providence , Rhode Island .
Since 2004, working people have also had the opportunity to take part-time summer courses, which over time have become the summer academy. Qualified courses are offered here.
The newly built school campus has been located opposite Rombergpark since 2007.
With the new building, numerous new courses and additional courses were created.
Since 2016, WIHOGA Dortmund has been pursuing a growth strategy through diversification in order to be able to offer market-oriented courses for the service sector in the future. In 2016 the name of the school was expanded accordingly and now also includes courses for trade and other services.

The school is located in the south of Dortmund, in the Brünninghausen district , opposite the Rombergpark .

The WIHOGA Dortmund consists of the training courses hotel vocational school , business high school (hotel industry, gastronomy, tourism & events) , hotel management assistant and business schools for the hotel and catering industry as well as for the fashion trade .
School club
The school association for the hotel and restaurant trade NRW eV is registered as the sponsor of WIHOGA, which founded WIHOGA Dortmund in 1959 as a substitute school (independent school with state qualifications). The school sponsoring association is closely linked to DEHOGA NRW.
General offers
Hotel vocational school
Initial experience can be gained here as part of basic training in all hospitality training professions: cook, hotel specialist and restaurant specialist, hotel clerk and specialist for system catering. In the one or two year basic training, which is carried out 50% in practice and 50% in theory, well-founded "know-how" and initial work processes can be conveyed. The vocational students work in the in-house restaurant and in the in-house kitchen. Here they create menus and are responsible for catering and catering for pupils and students.
Business high school "Hotel Industry, Gastronomy, Tourism & Events" and "Fashion and Luxury Management"
The business high school enables students with qualifications for attending the upper level of the gymnasium to acquire a full Abitur. By attending the business high school at WIHOGA Dortmund, pupils can orientate themselves and qualify themselves early in the professional field of hotel and catering, as well as tourism and events or fashion and luxury management. Within three years, the students acquire the general university entrance qualification and can gain their first professional knowledge.
Hotel management assistant
For (technical) high school graduates, the two-year full-time school vocational training to become a " hotel management assistant " (including 20 week internship phases in the hotel) is offered, which can be completed with a high school diploma or technical college entrance qualification.
Business School Hotel and Gastronomy
Students who have completed training in the hospitality industry and have at least one year of professional experience have the opportunity to acquire a state-certified business economist (specializing in the hotel and catering industry) within four semesters. The state-certified business administration degree is the highest level of education that can be obtained at a vocational college. Within these four semesters, students have the opportunity to acquire the academic degree of a Bachelor of Arts alongside their business administration degree.
Business school for the fashion trade
Students who have completed training in retail or in the fashion industry and have at least one year of professional experience have the opportunity to acquire a state-certified business economist with a focus on retail management within four semesters. The state-certified business administration degree is the highest level of education that can be obtained at a vocational college. During these four semesters, students have the opportunity to acquire a Bachelor of Arts alongside their business administration degree.
Double qualification "State certified business economist" & "Bachelor of Arts in Business Management"
The qualification from the hotel management school and the planned business school for future commercial managers is assigned to level 6 in the German qualifications framework for lifelong learning (DQR) and in the European qualifications framework (EQF) and thus corresponds to the level of a bachelor’s degree; however, it does not have the same permissions associated with it.
The students of the two business schools at WIHOGA Dortmund can complete an almost parallel bachelor's degree during their school days at WIHOGA. This is possible through the cooperation with the Academy for Business Management (AFUM) and the state-owned British Buckinghamshire New University.
Master of Business Administration (MBA)
With a duration of three to six semesters, students have the opportunity to acquire an academic master's degree. The requirements for this master’s degree are relevant professional experience and a state-certified business economist. The course is carried out in collaboration with the British Buckinghamshire New University in Monheim.
WIHOGA summer academy
One week during the summer vacation, practice-oriented seminars are offered for managers. In these one-day, half-day or weekly workshops, current developments on the market are discussed and worked out so that the participants can apply this knowledge in the companies.
Dormitory and meals
Next to the school building is the on-campus dormitory, which offers 150 single rooms. During the week, the school restaurant run by the vocational students is available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. On weekends and during the holidays, students have the opportunity to cater for themselves in one of the common rooms.
