This mast was originally located in Columbus, Georgia, behind the WRBL television studios on 12th Avenue. The foundations are still there. It was originally not 533 meters high, but only about 366 m. The additional 167m was added after the mast was moved to Cusseta.
Both WTVM and WRBL transmitted the image signals from the studio to the transmission mast in Cusseta using directional radio . There was a direct line of sight between the aerials in the studios and the receiving aerials on the transmitter mast in Cusseta. At the beginning there were often problems with winds that adjusted the antennas and there was often icing. After icing, it had to be adjusted manually at times. This was also necessary to align the antennas.
