The Wachtenburg Winzer eG is a German wine cooperative based in Wachenheim on the German Wine Route .

It is one of the first winegrowers' cooperatives in the Palatinate . According to the founding information of all winegrowers 'cooperatives in the Palatinate, only the Deidesheim winegrowers' cooperative is older than the Wachtenburg Winzer eG. The Wachenheim cooperative has 240 members who cultivate 340 hectares of land. The namesake of the watch Winzer eG is the castle ruins Wachtenburg in Wachenheim.

history

The Wachtenburg cooperative was founded in 1900 and the Luginsland cooperative two years later. In 1969 the two cooperatives merged. In 1971 the Gönnheim cooperative was included. The cooperative was renamed Wachtenburg Winzer eG in 1997. In 2010 a new wine press house was built, which is one of the most modern wine press houses in Germany.

Vineyards

Grapes for the cooperative come from vineyards in Wachenheim, Forst and Deidesheim, including the large Dürkheimer Feuerberg vineyard.

Wines and sparkling wines

The main focus of the cooperative is on Riesling wines. A total of 13 white and 11 red grape varieties are offered in different flavors. The entire range can be sampled in the existing vinotheque .

Awards and certifications

The wines and sparkling wines from Wachtenburg Winzer eG are regularly checked by Mundus Vini , the Chamber of Agriculture and the German Agricultural Society (DLG). According to the assessment by the DLG, the Wachtenburg winegrowers are among the hundred best wine-growing companies in Germany.

At the wine and sparkling wine awards in the Neustadter Saalbau, the Wachtenburg winemakers were honored with the 2018 Seed Prize by the Rhineland-Palatinate Chamber of Agriculture. After 2016 and 2017, this is the third state honor award for the Wachenheim cooperative.
