The Maur glass painting in Ahrweiler , a district of the city of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler in northern Rhineland-Palatinate , is a glass painting that was founded in 1959. The family company, now run by Jürgen Maur in the second generation, is located at Wilhelmstrasse 46.

Company history

First generation

On August 1, 1959, Rudolf Maur set up his own glass painting workshop in Ahrweiler. He completed his apprenticeship in the Heinrich Maier glass painting workshop in Bad Neuenahr and then worked for renowned companies in Koblenz (Eckstein, Zitto) and Cologne (Selbach and Henseler, Cologne Dombauhütte). At first, church windows were almost exclusively made in Ahrweiler. Gradually the focus of the work shifted to the private customer. Guest rooms and private houses were equipped with individual works from the glass painter's workshop.

Second generation

The son of the company founder, Jürgen Maur (* 1963), took over the family business in 1999. He had passed the master craftsman examination in Zwiesel in 1986 . In the meantime, the focus of work has developed on restorations and replicas of old leaded glass windows.

Bonn Central Station

The semicircular window above the main entrance of Bonn's main train station is around eight by four meters and serves as an advertising space for Klosterfrau Melissengeist . The window from the Ahrweiler workshop consists of around 1040 individual pieces of glass; it was used in 1989.
