The first forms of cartomancy appeared in the early printing press between 1480 and 1505. However, the suggestions are still very far from the later complex systems and are based on previously known schemes of lottery books. Playful forms with slight divinatory aspects can be proven in the context of the tarot cards in the 16th century. Stronger forms of development become visible in the 18th century.
