Waipapakauri is a small settlement in the Far North District of Northland on the North Island of New Zealand .
Origin of name
The name of the settlement is made up of the terms: “ wai ” for “water”, “ papa ” for “flat” or “flat” and “ kauri ” for the local Kauri tree.
geography
The settlement is located around 3.5 km northwest of Awanui and around 10 km north-northwest of Kaitaia , on the northwestern edge of the plain of the Awanui River . history
The 7th Squadron of the New Zealand Air Force under AJ Turner was formed in Waipapakauri in February 1942 in response to the outbreak of war with Japan .
