Walbert Bühlmann

Walbert Bühlmann OFMCap (born August 6, 1916 in Emmen LU , † May 16, 2007 in Schwyz ) was a Swiss theologian and belonged to the Capuchin order .

Life

Bühlmann was born in the Emmenbrücke-Gerliswil district of Emmen, where he also spent his youth. He entered the Capuchin Order in 1935, was ordained a priest in 1942 and received his doctorate from the University of Freiburg in Üechtland . From 1950 to 1953 Bühlmann was a missionary in Tanganyika (now Tanzania ). Later he worked u. a. as a lecturer at the Institute for Mission Studies at the University of Freiburg i.Ü., Secretary General of the Missions of the Capuchin Order and Professor for Mission Studies at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome .

Bühlmann campaigned strongly for reforms in the Roman Catholic Church , which also led to conflicts with Roman authorities. He has written numerous theological publications, some of which have been translated into other languages. Where faith lives. Insights into the situation of the universal church is regarded as his most important work and received great international attention. He was still active as a writer at an advanced age. He spent the last years of his life mainly in the Capuchin monastery in Olten .
