The Rolandseck Forest and Game Park in the Remagen district of Rolandseck is a private game park . The park, located at Am Kasselbach 4 , houses domestic wild animals and some domestic animals in its outdoor enclosures and aviaries and is a popular excursion destination in the region.

history

The landowning family of the Barons von Lüdinghausen , based in Rolandseck, decided at the end of the 1960s to create a public park for wild animals. Together with the forester Robert Küpper and other employees of the Rolandseck Forest Administration, the wildlife park was laid out over an area of around 350,000 square meters over the course of two years. The wildlife park in Rolandseck was officially opened on October 6, 1971. In his opening address, the then Federal Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Josef Ertl praised the newly created park as a “great work for the entire population”. By the end of the year the park had 10,000 visitors, and by mid-May 1972 there were 30,000.

The park, which is open from March to November and operated by Wildpark Rolandseck GmbH , is a member of the German Wildlife Park Association . In 1979 the association was certified by the association as a "professionally tested German game reserve" due to the fulfillment of the relevant expert reports from the Federal Ministry for Consumer Protection, Food and Agriculture. Eckart von Lüdinghausen had been managing director of the wildlife park since 1991, and Tessa von Lüdinghausen took over this function in March 2016.

location

The hilly, partly gorgeous park is located southwest of Rolandseck. It extends south of the Haus Sölling property on the left bank of the Rhine along the railway line from Rolandseck station to Oberwinter (Mittelrhein-Bahn and Rhein-Ahr-Bahn) , which runs around 100 meters from the bank of the Rhine, and is cut through by the Kasselbach, which flows into the Rhine here. The area is largely natural, has old forest with interspersed deforestation areas and several ponds formed by the Kasselbach. The hiking trails to be used are unpaved. A lookout tower built around 1860 allows a view over the zoo and the Siebengebirge on the opposite side of the Rhine with its Drachenfels .

Duration

In large enclosures in the western part of the plant several domestic big game species (live mouflon , fallow deer and wild boar ). There are also domestic animals such as Scottish highland cattle , donkeys , goats , ponies and rabbits. The eastern half of the park, separated by the Kasselbach, is dedicated to the red deer . A pack of these animals lives there on a 16 hectare forest area.
