Gauge : 760 mm ( Bosnian gauge )

The forest railway in the Žďárské vrchy was a three-line forest railway in the Saar mountains , Czechoslovakia .

On 26 and 27 October 1930, came into the densely forested mountains Žďár through a snowstorm to snow damage large parts of the forests. About 80% of the forest was affected. In total, the amount of breakage caused by the wet snow amounted to 3,500,000 cubic meters of wood that had to be cleared from the forests before the bark beetles spread .

In 1931, three forest railway lines were built with a total length of 20 kilometers. They led between Cikháj and the newly built forest workers' settlement Borky southeast of Vojnův Městec into the forest areas not accessible by roads. Three-meter-wide railway embankments were created for the narrow-gauge railways for transporting the felled wood with a track width of 760 mm, which each led to steam saw mills. The sleeper length was 1400 mm. Both steam locomotives and petrol-fired locomotives were used as drive means. To meet the demand for labor, Ruthenian forest workers were brought in from Carpathian Russia, who spent five years repairing the damage caused by the snowstorm in the forests.

One of the routes led between Borky on the southern slope of Tisůvka (792 m) to Cikháj . The second route was laid out from the Chrudimka valley from the settlement of Lány near Kameničky to Herálec . The third of the tracks ran from the woods north of Hamry nad Sázavou to the Dívka and Vápenice ponds and via Račín to the Velké Dářko pond .

In the course of 1934, the work had progressed so far that the forest railways and sawmills were gradually shut down and dismantled from 1935, starting with the line to Borky. The use in the forest areas led to high material wear and failure of locomotives. Today, the routes can only be recognized by the course of forest paths.
