Waldeck Manasse
Waldeck Manasse (born March 4, 1864 in Schlepzig , Lübben district , † May 13, 1923 in Berlin ) was a German writer and social democratic politician.
Live and act
Waldeck Manasse was born into a middle-class Jewish family and moved with his parents to Lübben in 1868 , where he attended school. Then he went to Berlin to become a businessman. In 1883 he was the founder and until 1893 chairman of the literary association "Schiller". After leaving the Jewish community, he joined the Free Religious Community of Berlin, whose spokesman he was elected on June 9, 1887. After giving up his job as a businessman in 1888, he studied philosophy and literary history for a few semesters at Berlin University . In 1890 he founded a small printing company to make a living.
From 1906 to 1920 Manasse was a member of the Berlin city council , where he campaigned for educational and art issues and made great contributions to poor relief and orphan care. In 1920 he was the first speaker for the district assembly in Berlin-Friedrichshain . He was also a member of the Prussian state parliament from 1921 until his death .
His grave is in the socialist cemetery in Berlin-Friedrichsfelde . The Pritstabelstrasse in Berlin-Köpenick bore his name from 1945 to 1948 (without official confirmation).
