Walentyn Wassylowytsch Sadowskyj ( Ukrainian Валентин Васильович Садовський * August 15 . Jul / 27. August  1886 greg. In Plischtschyn , volhynian governorate , Russian Empire ; † 24. November 1947 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) was a Ukrainian geographer, economist, politician and Minister of Justice.

Life

Sadowskyj was born into a priestly family in the village of Plishchyn in what is now the Ukrainian Oblast of Khmelnytskyi . He studied law at St. Vladimir University in Kiev until 1909 and then economics at the St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute until 1911 . There he was an active member of the Ukrainian student community and from 1904 he was a member of the USDRP . After graduating, he worked as a lawyer in Saint Petersburg.

After the February Revolution of 1917 he became a member of the Central Na Rada . Walentyn Sadowskyj was from June 15, 1917 to January 11, 1918 General Secretary for Legal Affairs in the General Secretariat of the Ukrainian Central Na Rada and from January 11, 1918 to March 1918 Minister of Justice of the Ukrainian People's Republic . In 1920 he went into exile in Poland and Czechoslovakia . From 1925 on he was a lecturer, later professor at the Ukrainian Business Academy in Poděbrady and a member of the Ukrainian Scientific Institute in Warsaw .

In 1945 he was arrested by the NKVD in Prague and imprisoned in Lukjaniwska prison in Kiev , where he died in November 1947.
