Walid Badir (born March 12, 1974 in Kafr Kasm ) is a former Israeli football player and member of the Arab minority in Israel. Most recently he played at Hapoel Tel Aviv in the Ligat ha'Al , the highest Israeli division.

Career

Badir began his career in 1987 at Hapoel Kafr Kasm, his home club. In 1990 he was signed by Hapoel Petah Tikva and played for two years in their youth team before he was brought to the first team in 1992. In the first season with the midfielder, the club was eleventh and penultimate. After a seventh place in 1994, a fifth in 1995 and an eighth place in 1996, Badir was able to celebrate the runner-up title with the club in 1996/97. In 1997/98 they still came in fifth. In his last season in Petah Tikva , sixth place could be achieved.

In 1999 he moved abroad and Badir went to England in the Premier League at Wimbledon FC . After 21 games and one goal (against Manchester United ), the Israeli had to relegate with Wimbledon from the top English division with 18th place, three points behind a non-relegation place.

The following season he returned to Israel and signed with Maccabi Haifa . There Badir was able to win four championship titles and a Supercup in five seasons played at Maccabi, in the 2002/03 season they were also runner-up and in 2001/02 they reached the cup final. He also took part with Maccabi in the 2002/03 season in the UEFA Champions League . The club competed against Manchester United , Olympiacos and Bayer 04 Leverkusen . The Israeli played in all games and scored the 1-0 in the last group game against Olympiakos in a 3-3 draw in Athens . The Greens were eliminated in the group stage.

At the beginning of the 2005/06 season, the midfielder moved to Hapoel Tel Aviv . In its first season they were runner-up behind their exclusive club Maccabi Haifa and won the cup final against Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv 1-0. In the next season, the cup victory could be repeated, but one was only fourth in the championship. After finishing fifth in 2008 they became runner-up again at the end of the 2008/09 season. This was followed by Badir's fifth championship title in 2009/10 , his first with Hapoel.

Internationally, Badir has played 74 times for Israel and scored twelve goals. He could not qualify with the team for any finals.

He ended his career in 2013.
