former open-cast lignite mine |
The Wallendorfer See is an anthropogenic lake in Saxony-Anhalt . It was created as a post-mining landscape in the area of the municipality of Schkopau in the Saalekreis district between the villages of Burgliebenau and Wallendorf .
General
The Wallendorfer See is in the immediate vicinity of the Raßnitzer See . Both bodies of water were created as a post-mining landscape after the cessation of lignite mining from the remaining holes in the Merseburg-Ost opencast mine (1991).
Most of the renovation was completed in 1998 and the lake was flooded with water from the nearby White Elster . The water level must be artificially regulated in the long term by pumping out. Because of the salty coal that occurs here, salt is introduced into the lake water. The lake borders on the floodplain forests of the river meadow landscape of the Weißer Elster and Luppe .
At least in 2018, the lake was still under mining law , as necessary safety measures still need to be taken.
The lake is intended to be used for local recreation. A Celtic tree circle was created on the south side .
