Walter († 1169 ) (also Walter von Breslau or Walter von Malonne ; French Wauthier de Malonne , Polish Walter z Malonne ) was Bishop of Breslau .

Life

Bishop Walter is said to have been a Walloon from Malonne near Namur in the diocese of Liège . His brother was the bishop of the diocese of Płock Alexander von Płock . During his tenure, the Wroclaw Premonstratensian Monastery of St. Martin was founded. At the Lehnhaus ( Wleński Gródek ) castle , he consecrated a St. In 1158 the construction of the Romanesque cathedral on the cathedral island began, which could only be completed under Bishop Siroslaus II . In addition, Walter is said to have tried to reform the church.

At Walter's request, the castellanias belonging to the diocese were placed under the protection of Pope Hadrian IV in 1155 . The papal privilege thus obtained also strengthened the position of the diocese. The diocese possessions, to which the Ottmachau castellan also belonged, which later became the center of the diocese , are therefore well preserved for this period. The Militsch castellany , on the other hand, was owned by the Wroclaw Cathedral Chapter .
