Walter A. Schwarz

Walter A. Schwarz (born July 16, 1944 in Vienna ) is an Austrian military historian and marksman. He is Vice Lieutenant i. R. of the Austrian Armed Forces .

Life and work

After graduating from primary and secondary school, Schwarz trained as a locksmith . In 1964 he did his military service, completed numerous voluntary weapons exercises from 1970, joined the Austrian Armed Forces in 1975 as a sergeant major and ended his military career in 2007 with the rank of Vice Lieutenant of the Armored Force.

During his service with the Panzergrenadierbataillon (Aus) 34, Panzerbataillon 33, Command of the 9th Panzer Grenadier Brigade , Army Intelligence Office, Army Command and Army History Museum, as well as in retirement, he published around 300 articles on military history and religious orders as well as several exhibition catalogs and monographs. He was President of the NCOs in Vienna , Secretary General of the Austrian Society for Military Studies and the Austrian Society for Religious Studies .

As a sport pistol shooter , he was a long-time member of the Austrian national and armed forces squad and participated in a civil European championship (1974 Enschede / NL) and four CISM military world championships (1980 Ft.Benning / USA; 1981 Cairo; 1982 Beijing; 1983 Ft.Benning / USA). He was or is a seven-time Austrian team national champion, eleven-time Austrian team champion, twenty-nine individual national champion and eighteen-time champion of the Austrian Army Sports Association in individual competitions. He had also won four international competitions. In 2019 he became Austrian champion with the air pistol and the sporty large-caliber pistol.

He has been married since 1965 and has one daughter.

Awards

Black was u. a. with the silver and gold medal of merit of the Republic of Austria (1994 and 2001), the gold medal for services to the republic of Austria (1988), the gold and silver medal of honor and the medal of honor in sports in silver of the federal state of Lower Austria, the golden medal of merit of the province of Vienna , the Badge of honor of the municipality of Deutsch-Wagram, the Cross of Merit and the Golden Merit Medal decorated with the silver laurel wreath of the Austrian Red Cross and the Golden Medal of the Hungarian President.
