Walter Burkhard

Walter Burkhard (born August 19, 1898 in Zurich ; †  February 19, 1968 there ) was from 1952 to 1964 head of the technical department of the urban civil engineering office of Zurich as an adjunct to the then urban engineer Hermann Steiner.

During the entire tenure of Walter Burkhard as civil engineer for the city of Zurich from 1927 to 1964, he was in charge of numerous larger and extensive companies that helped shape the cityscape of Zurich. Mention should be made of various expansions and conversions in connection with the Swiss National Exhibition in 1939, which was dedicated to intellectual national defense : expansion of Bellerivestrasse, Bellevueplatz, Quaibrücke and Seestrasse up to the city limits. Also to be mentioned are the construction of the sewage treatment plant on the Glatt , the new construction of the Dreikönigsbrücke, the Walchebrücke and the traffic routes in the area of ​​the station square, the central and the Limmatquais , the construction of the railway viaduct over the Sihlquai and the expansion of the Leonhardplatz, as well as the widening of the Station bridge .

During his active service from 1939 to 1945, Walter Burkhard was a lieutenant colonel in the staff of the 6th Division . From 1958 to 1964 he chaired the shooting committee of the Swiss Federal Shooting Festival in Zurich.
