Walter Eggert (born July 18, 1940 in Ilsenburg ; † June 2, 2017 ) was a German luge athlete .

Walter Eggert from SC Traktor Oberwiesenthal won the bronze medal for the first time at the GDR championships in 1961 behind Günter Schneider and Thomas Köhler in the single-seater. He also won the bronze medal in 1962, now with his doubles partner Ruhe. He and his new partner Helmut Vollprecht took part in the first two-seater luge competitions at the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 and with this he finished fourth, after the doubles were third after the first of two rounds, but in the overall standings to the Italians Walter Außenendorfer and Sigisfredo Mair . In 1964 and 1965, the double Vollprecht / Eggert also won the silver medal at the GDR championships behind Klaus Bonsack and Thomas Köhler and ahead of Wolfgang Scheidel and Michael Köhler . In 1965 he also won bronze in the individual competition at the GDR championships behind Bonsack and Klaus Halbauer .

Eggert's son Sven was also a world-class tobogganist , the grandson Toni is a multiple world champion and Olympian in luge sport.
