Walter Haemmerle

Walter Hämmerle (born April 21, 1971 in Lustenau ) is an Austrian journalist . In 2008 he became deputy editor-in-chief of the Wiener Zeitung , and in 2017 he took over the management of the editorial department on an interim basis. In September 2018 he was appointed editor-in-chief of the Wiener Zeitung.

Life

Walter Hämmerle studied journalism and political science at the University of Vienna , where he in 1998 Heinrich Neisser with a dissertation on the subject of local politics in Austria between competition and consensus doctorate . From 1998 to 2001 he worked for the Austrian People's Party in Vienna , initially as a political advisor until 2000 and then as deputy state manager, responsible for the day-to-day political coordination of the politics, press and organization departments.

In 2002 he became editor-in-chief for domestic affairs at Wiener Zeitung , where he became head of service in 2004 and deputy editor-in-chief in 2008. After editor-in-chief Reinhard Göweil was dismissed in October 2017, Hämmerle became interim managing director of the editorial team. In September 2018 he was entrusted with the editor-in-chief by the Federal Chancellery as the newspaper's owner representative. He is the eighth editor-in-chief of the newspaper since the Second World War . Hämmerle was proposed as editor-in-chief by the managing director of the Wiener Zeitung, Martin Fleischhacker, and the company's supervisory board unanimously approved this proposal. He took up his position as editor-in-chief on October 1, 2018, and his term of office will initially run until August 31, 2021.
