Walter Haas (building researcher)

Walter Haas (born October 4, 1928 in Nuremberg ; † January 16, 2005 ) was a German building researcher and monument conservator . He was a professor for building history and building research at the Technical University of Darmstadt .

Life

Walter Haas studied in Stuttgart from 1948 to 1955 Architecture . After a legal traineeship in Stuttgart with the completion of the state examination, he worked on the exploration of the Speyer Cathedral , on which he then received his doctorate in 1966 with Konrad Hecht at the TU Braunschweig . In 1961 he became a consultant for building research at the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments , and later a department head for practical monument preservation. In 1978 he became professor at the TU Darmstadt , in 1995 he retired and in 1997 he was honorary professor at the University of Munich .

He is buried in the Johannisfriedhof in Nuremberg .
