Walter Henke (born January 10, 1905 in Niederpesterwitz , † March 10, 1991 in Freital ) was a German chess composer .

Life

Henke was a baker by profession, played several instruments at a young age and worked as a musician for more than two decades, for example in the spa orchestras of Bad Elster and Bad Salzungen . In addition to chess problems, he also wrote numerous chess epigrams and humorous poems. He had been married since 1946. In addition to a chess badge of honor , Henke also received badges of honor from the SED , the FDGB and the DSF , which, according to Günter Schiller, were awarded “for his social activities”.

Chess composition

His first chess problem appeared in 1922 in the column of the Dresdner Anzeiger , directed by Friedrich Palitzsch . His publications in the Dresdner Volkszeitung and in the Arbeiter-Schachzeitung were often devoted to the move-change-two-move. Since 1959 he has published about 140 two, three and four-moves in chess , free press , weekly mail and in the Saxon newspaper .
