Walter Krämer (soccer player)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Walter Krämer (before 1920 - after 1955) was a German soccer player who made it to the finals for the German championship twice with Meidericher SV .

Career in football

From the season 1920/21 onwards, Krämer was part of the squad of Meidericher SV from Duisburg . Shortly after the First World War , the team only competed in the Duisburg district league, but in 1922 managed to rise to the Gauliga Niederrhein in a sovereign manner. Shortly after promotion, the team showed their sporting quality by winning a 2-2 in a friendly against Dutch champions Ajax Amsterdam . The player himself took on a role as a center forward in the 2-3-5 system that was common at the time. In the years that followed, the striker gained a reputation for outstanding skills in his position, thanks in particular to numerous goals. His team was also considered to be one of the strongest in their league and always found itself at the top, but narrowly missed the title several times. In contrast, the MSV became Niederrheinmeister for the first time in the club's history in 1929, to which Krämer had made an important contribution through good performances in the final phase of the season.

After the title on the Lower Rhine, the team was allowed to play for the West German championship and was able to present themselves relatively well against various competitors. A 4-2 victory in a clash with FC Schalke 04 on June 2, 1929, in which Krämer made an early decision with a counterattack in the 83rd minute, qualified for the German championship finals of 1929 ; In the fight for the West German title, the team had to finally admit defeat to Schalke in a decider. In the second round for the national title, the MSV met the reigning champions Hamburger SV . Against this, Krämer scored a goal, put another shot at the post, before he was injured at the end of the game - at that time it was not allowed to be replaced. Meiderich ultimately lost just 2: 3 and was eliminated.

On the Lower Rhine, the striker and his team fought to defend their title, but Homberger SV won in 1930. A year later, however, Meiderich was again Niederrheinmeister. Some games were lost in the West German championship, but with an important penalty goal by Krämer to make it 1-1 against VfB 03 Bielefeld , MSV secured third-place eligibility for the German championship in 1931 . Against the first round opponent TSV 1860 Munich, the Meidericher retired with the help of Krämer after a 1: 4 defeat. Later, his time with the first team ended and he became part of the old men’s team, where he played alongside his former companions Eberhard Graffmann , Willi Lange and Hennes Schmitz . After the Second World War he found a new home in Solms, Hesse . The connection to his ex-club was retained, however, which is why he invited the Meiderich A-youth , led by the later Bundesliga player Günter Preuss , to an encounter against a local team from Solms in the mid-1950s . He also initiated the annual games of his new club, FC Burgsolms, against the old men of the MSV.

Walter Krämer is the uncle of the brothers Hans and Werner Krämer , who both played for Meiderich, among others; Werner Krämer appeared 13 times for the German national team.
