Walter Julián "Pery" Martínez (born March 28, 1982 in Tegucigalpa , † August 11, 2019 in New York City , New York ) was a Honduran football player .
Career
Although Walter Julián Martínez was born in Tegucigalpa, he began his career with Victoria La Ceiba . He then played for city rivals Vida before moving to CD Marathón , another Honduran top club, where he put his skills to the test and attracted the attention of foreign clubs.
Pery , as he was called, finally decided to move to Beijing to Beijing Guoan in the Chinese Super League , where many of his compatriots had already played in recent years. There he advanced to become one of the best strikers in the Chinese upper house with 14 goals in 44 games.
After a brief stint at the Spanish club Deportivo Alavés , Martínez finally returned to Marathón. He moved back to Beijing Guoan after one season. There he played with his team for the Chinese championship for two years before joining second division Chongqing FC in early 2012 . In early 2013 he moved to the San José Earthquakes in Major League Soccer . After all, he played for Club Xelajú MC in Guatemala for six months before switching to CD Marathón a third time in early 2015. After six months at Club Deportivo FAS in El Salvador, he ended his career.
Walter Julián Martínez died of a heart attack .
