Walter Pätzold

Walter Pätzold (born May 2, 1948 in Scherfede , today in Warburg , † February 22, 2011 in Wolfach ) was a German mycologist . From 1981 until his death he was director of the Black Forest mushroom teaching show in Hornberg . He was also a member of the Presidium of the German Society for Mycology (DGfM).

Life

Walter Pätzold did an apprenticeship as a biology laboratory assistant after completing his school education . He later married and moved to Mannheim . Some time later he changed his profession and worked in kidney technology and as a tram driver in Mannheim. In 1978 he passed the mushroom advisor exam and remarried. The following year both moved to Hornberg , where Pätzold worked at Rose Marie Dähncke's Black Forest mushroom teaching show . In 1981, after Dähncke moved away, he took over the management of the facility.

Pätzold had two sons from his first marriage.

Services

Walter Pätzold expanded the Black Forest mushroom teaching show into a center of mycological events in Germany. He expanded the offer of the program, which is designed for visitors with different levels of knowledge and areas of interest. In the course of his training activity in Hornberg, Walter Pätzold examined a few hundred mushroom experts, some of whom also came from abroad.

Together with the DGfM, he developed the examination program for mushroom experts, which includes a written and an oral examination. This resulted in the guidelines of the German Society for Mycology e. V. for the training, testing, activity and further training of the mushroom experts DGfM , in whose development he was significantly involved. He also initiated the annual mushroom expert meetings and organized the DGfM conference in Hornberg. He also contributed to the creation of the new statutes of the DGfM and the guidelines for mushroom experts . In 2000 he was elected to the Presidium of the DGfM, where he was most recently vice-president.

Pätzold was a specialist in the genus of the hair veils ( Cortinarius ). He was elected President of the Journées européennes du Cortinaire , which he headed for eight years.

He was awarded the Nature Tourism Prize in November 2008 for his commitment to nature conservation and his work at the Black Forest Mushroom Teaching Show .

Local politics

Walter Pätzold was a member of the SPD from 1994 . From 1999 he sat in the municipal council of the city of Hornberg. In addition, he was chairman of the Kinzigtal district group of the SPD as well as a member of the advisory board for the environment, agriculture, energy and transport in the SPD state executive and environmental policy spokesman in the SPD district executive. In 2000 he applied to be mayor of Hornberg.
