Walter Pochlatko

Walter Pochlatko (born October 7, 1901 in Linz , † 1986 in Graz ) was an Austrian sculptor and writer .

Live and act

Walter Pochlatko was born in Linz on October 7, 1901. After completing school he studied at the TH Graz under Anton Weinkopf and subsequently spent four years at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna , where he was taught by Josef Müllner , among others . On the occasion of the 26th annual exhibition of the Styrian Artists' Cooperative in the State Museum, Pochlatko received the State Prize for Overall Performance. On December 7, 1932, on the occasion of the 29th annual exhibition of the said cooperative, he was again awarded the gold state medal for overall performance. In 1933 he worked in Paris , from 1935 in Berlin and in 1945 he settled in Graz. In December 1946 he exhibited together with the painters Rudolf Gattinger , Pipo Peteln and Franz Trenk at a small art exhibition for two weeks in the sales rooms of the Thonet brothers in Grazer Herrengasse .

Throughout his life he created not only sports, warrior and animal sculptures, but also portraits and other works of art in public spaces. In the summer of 1941 he participated with his works at the Great German Art Exhibition in Munich . The Austrian Federal Government awarded the member of the Styrian Association of Visual Artists the Austrian State Prize for Visual Arts for his complete work.

He is the author of the book Yugoslavia, the gateway to the Orient , which was published in 1940 by Saturn Verlag in Vienna and Leipzig . A year earlier, Pochlatko's book Between Half Moon and Cross was published by the same publisher . A German experiences Yugoslavia published.

His relatives include the actor Werner Pochlatko , the filmmaker Dieter Pochlatko and his sons Jakob and Florian and the author Herbert Pochlatko . The film producer Peter Pochlatko , who died in 2002, was a brother of Werner and Dieter Pochlatko. Their father Erich , the brother of Walter Pochlatko, was a producer of successful and award-winning films, especially in the 1950s.
