Walter Spannenkrebs (born August 16, 1895 in Breslau , † October 19, 1979 in Hamburg ) was a German army officer, most recently major general in World War II .

Life

In 1915 he entered active service as a flag junior during the First World War and shortly thereafter became a lieutenant in the infantry regiment "Graf Schwerin" (3rd Pomeranian) No. 14 . Spannenkrebs were awarded both classes of the Iron Cross for his achievements . After the end of the war he was accepted into the Reichswehr , where he a. a. his service as adjutant of the III. Battalion in the 4th (Prussian) Infantry Regiment . On October 1, 1934, Spannenkrebs became a teacher at the reopened War Academy in Berlin . In 1938 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel . In 1939 he wrote his work Attack with a chariot . In 1941 he was promoted to colonel . In 1943 his book Attack with Chariots appeared in a second revised new edition. In October 1944, Spannenkrebs was named major general.
