Walter Steinbeck

Walter Steinbeck (born September 26, 1878 in Niederlößnitz , † August 27, 1942 in Berlin ) was a German actor.

Life

The son of the educator Dr. Johann Otto Gustav Steinbeck and his wife Emilie Caroline Luise geb. Raase moved with his parents to Berlin, where he attended high school. After graduating from high school, he decided to become an actor and took lessons from Heinrich Oberländer at the Royal Theater .

From 1900, after his debut in Berlin, Steinbeck received engagements at theaters in Graz (1901), Oldenburg (1904), Breslau (1906), Danzig (1907) and from 1909 at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus . In 1912 he returned to Berlin, where he played in the theater on Königgrätzstrasse .

From 1916 Steinbeck worked at the Wiesbaden Court Theater , where he also took on directing duties. From 1921 he lived in Berlin again, where he appeared in comedies, revues and operettas at the Lessing Theater , the Theater am Kurfürstendamm , the Komödienhaus and the Metropol Theater .

Steinbeck, who had received only insignificant film jobs in the 1920s, became a sought-after film actor with the advent of talkies. He almost always charged high officers, officials, entrepreneurs and directors in supporting roles.

Walter Steinbeck was married to the actress Elinor Büller from 1912 to 1916 and had a daughter named Helga. In 1920 he married the actress Tille Uhrig. He died of heart failure on the stage of the Theater am Kurfürstendamm.
