Fräulein Leutnant is a German silent film -military amusement game from 1914 by Carl Wilhelm .

action

Somewhere in pre-war Germany at the time of Kaiser Wilhelm II , in a small cavalry garrison . The regimental commander , a somewhat fluffy and bramar-based colonel , is hoping to be appointed general in the near future . Since the garrison is about to be inspected by a big-headed military man, the colonel is keen to avoid even the tiniest of incidents that would hinder his career. For this reason, the commander takes twice as hard as usual for every minor misconduct. If even a single officer is caught playing cards, room arrest is immediately imposed. It even hits his own son, who actually wanted to celebrate his engagement in the city council the next day and is now supposed to hump his sentence.

The junior officer who wants to marry is lucky because his sister is willing to serve the sentence for him. While the lieutenant in civilian clothes is attending the banquet, the young lady has squeezed into her uniform and is waiting in the room. This would not be dramatic if her lover, who is also stationed in the barracks, was on duty today. But now of all times his Excellency, the big-headed man, is popular to inspect the garrison unannounced and even in the evening. So the malaise is perfect: the colonel and garrison commander in 1000 troubles and fears for his promotion, the junior at an engagement party that ultimately leaves him in the community, and his daughter in uniform and finally even on horseback ... In the end, however, breaks up everything in good will and there is a double engagement.

Production notes

Miss Leutnant was created shortly before the outbreak of the First World War . The three-act play was 1060 meters long and, depending on the source, was premiered on April 12 or 17, 1914 in the Marble House .

Jean Eduard Fried wrote the prologue texts, the paintings and drawings for the title are from Erich Wohlfahrt's pen.

Mistakenly, Miss Lieutenant is regularly equated with the similarly titled military amusement game Miss Feldgrau . Both films have the same leading actors in Else Bötticher and Albert Paulig and were directed by the same director. Bötticher also appears in front of the camera with a trouser role in both films. The production companies are just as different from each other as the content of the two films, one of which is set before the outbreak of war and the other after the outbreak of war in 1914.

Theater artist Bötticher plays one of her first film roles here.

criticism

“A stylish, Prussian barracks courtyard bloom, with ... an exuberant daughter who shows guts and humor even in the neat hussar uniform. Else Böttcher [sic!], Who shows herself fully up to her “male” task in the trouser role, creates cheerful situations without number and has complete success for herself, to which Albert Paulig as a seconding officer boy also contributes quite a bit. (...) Everything is handled at a happy pace and with stormy serenity. "
