Albert Paulig (born January 14, 1873 in Stollberg / Erzgebirge , † March 19, 1933 in Berlin ) was a German theater and film actor .

Life

Albert Paulig was a popular actor in German silent films in the 1910s and 1920s .

He attended a teacher training college and received musical training at the Dresden Conservatory . He initially worked as a businessman and made his stage debut at the Zwickau City Theater in 1896 . Other stages were Łódź , Hanover and Dresden . In 1901 he appeared for the first time in Berlin at the German-American Theater. He then made guest appearances on various other Berlin theaters.

At the age of 40, Paulig was discovered as a film comedian. Because of his success, he got his own series, the Albert Paulig series, in the 1910s. These films had simple titles like Albert as Asta Nielsen or Albert has Prokura . Paulig also directed the film Alberts Hose .

Between the films in his series, he also starred in other films, including The Company Marries and The Company Pride , both with Ernst Lubitsch . After his Albert Paulig series ended in 1919, his popularity with audiences remained unbroken in the 1920s. With the start of the sound film, Paulig was able to continue his career and played in films such as The Testament of Cornelius Gulden and Manolescou, the prince of thieves .

K1 intervenes was his last film. He did not live to see the performance of the same. Albert Paulig died of a heart attack in Berlin on March 19, 1933, two days after K1 intervenes had passed the censorship.
