Die chaste Susanne is a German silent film comedy from 1926. Directed by Richard Eichberg , Willy Fritsch and Lilian Harvey, the most popular pre-war German film lovers, play together for the first time.

Susanne Pomarel, daughter of a country doctor, leads a true double life: while in her home town, a small provincial town that gives a virtuous, young and well-mannered Mademoiselle through and through, who has even been awarded a medal for her alleged chastity, she leaves as soon as she is gone, in the big city all of the “virtues” so vaunted at home are regularly used. As soon as she arrives in Paris, Susanne begins a wild nightlife, dances on the table and has fun in many an establishment that would only turn up your nose in the provinces. The brave, modest country egg then becomes a femme fatale: sophisticated, seductive and wicked. When Susanne met the handsome cavalier René Boislurette one day in the French capital, it was all over her.
Played enough with the guys, she thinks, and shows a serious interest in the chic Bonhomme. But René, in turn, has fallen in love with another young girl. Her name is Jacqueline des Aubrais and, as they say, comes from a very good family. In the fight between the two women for the coveted René there is some back and forth in which Susanne unexpectedly ruins René's engagement with Jacqueline through her “sinful” behavior. But after various entanglements, of which self-proclaimed moralists are not entirely innocent, and the "processing" of Jacqueline's initially unwilling family, which - especially her strict father, the Baron des Aubrais - still has to be convinced that René is neither a dowry hunter nor a dowry hunter is a Luftikus, the two lovers find each other for the grand finale in the Moulin Rouge .
Production notes
The shooting of Die chaste Susanne began on July 1, 1926 in the Jofa studio in Berlin-Johannisthal and ended the following month. The six-act act with a length of 2,439 meters passed the censorship on September 6, 1926, was banned for young people and premiered on November 11, 1926 in the Ufa-Palast am Zoo .
Jacques Rotmil designed the film structures and Joe Strassner designed the costumes .

In this film, Willy Fritsch and Lilian Harvey were first cast together. This duo was to embody lovers in a plethora of other film romances up to and including woman at the wheel in the spring of 1939. The enthusiasm that this masterpiece of serene art aroused when it appeared across the pond is best demonstrated by the fact that South Americans at the time had the opportunity to hear the operetta not only in German or Spanish, but also in French, English, or Italian. I have always emphasized that it is necessary to secure the largest possible foreign participation for German film. It is not only important to secure the material foundations of the German film industry, but also to interest other countries in our production in an idealistic way. Hardly any other material could seem more appropriate to me than "Die chaste Susanne", which has been used in all languages on all stages of the world. Figures like father and son who go for a stroll together are international. Was it therefore surprising when Gilbert and I shouted: "Susann! Susann! You did it to me." You see, that's why I made it into a film. "
