Walter Streckfuß

Walter Streckfuß (born October 3, 1900 in Mannheim ; † May 4, 1957 ibid) was a German opera singer ( bass ).

Life

After his training at the conservatory , Streckfuß got a contract as a bassist at the Remscheid City Theater . The following year, the city theater in Bamberg engaged him for two years.

Between 1928 and 1929 Streckfuss got a job at the theater in Kaiserslautern and then moved to the Landestheater in Gera , where he stayed until 1931. In 1931/1932 Streckfuß sang at the Stadttheater in Halle (Saale) .

Then he was until 1944 at the Opera House in Leipzig . There Streckfuß played a key role in the premiere of the opera Der Eulenspiegel by Hans Stieber in 1936 .

After the end of the war, Streckfuss came to Lübeck , where he was engaged at the city theater in 1947. In 1953 he moved to the Nationaltheater Mannheim , where he was a member of the ensemble until the end of his life. Walter Streckfuß died there on May 4, 1957 at the age of 56.

Streckfuß excelled in many roles, but was best known as an interpreter of Richard Wagner's works.
