politics

Walter Werner joined the SPD in 1947 and was initially active with the Young Socialists and the " Falcons ". Walter Werner was also involved early on in the textile clothing union . He was a member of the council of the municipality of Epe (Westphalia) without interruption from October 17, 1948 until the local elections on May 4, 1975. In addition, Walter Werner held the mandate as a member of the Ahaus district council from 1948 until the local election on March 19, 1961. In the elections to the 3rd state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia on June 27, 1954, Walter Werner ran for a direct mandate in constituency 79 (Ahaus) without a chance. Franz Berding (CDU) received the direct mandate with almost four times as many votes. Nevertheless, two years later Walter Werner was able to move up to 40th place on the state reserve list of his party on December 20, 1956 in the current 3rd electoral period of the state parliament. He succeeded the late Heinrich Bruckhoff (1892–1956). From February 1957 to May 1958 he was a member of the Committee on Food, Agriculture and Forestry .

The subsequent fourth ballot in North Rhine-Westphalia on July 6, 1958 gave the CDU an absolute majority of the seats and the SPD list position 55 was not enough for Walter Werner to move into the state parliament. He did not run for the 5th state election in 1962. After the NRW local elections on May 4, 1975, Walter Werner finally retired from active politics. As a simple member of his party, he continued to participate in the political process. On March 15, 1995, he handed over his estate to the Archive of Social Democracy (AdsD) of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Bonn.
