Walter Winterburn
Walter Winterburn OP (* approx. 1225 in Salisbury , England ; † September 24, 1305 in Genoa , Italy ) was a cardinal of the Roman Church .
Life
After joining the Dominican Order , Winterburn studied theology in Paris and Oxford . He completed his studies with a doctorate .
From 1290 to 1296 Provincial of the English Order Province of the Dominican Order, he was confessor and spiritualistic of King Edward I and his family.
On February 19, 1304 elevated to the cardinal priest of the titular church Santa Sabina , he traveled to Italy for the conclave 1304-1305 . The new Pope Clement V then sent him to France with Cardinal Niccolò Alberti . Here he should review the teachings of the Franciscan Piergiovanni Olivi .
He died on the trip to France in Genoa and was buried in the Dominican church there. His remains were later transferred to London and buried in Blackfriars .
Works
Winterburn wrote numerous poems and theological writings.
