Walter Zimper

Walter Zimper (born April 29, 1942 in Markt Piesting , Lower Austria ; † January 13, 2008 in St. Pölten ) was an Austrian politician of the ÖVP .

Life

Walter Zimper studied after attending the commercial academy at the University of Vienna . Professionally he was editor-in-chief of the Niederösterreichischer Volksblatt .

Since 1970 he was a councilor in Markt Piesting and was mayor of this municipality from 1975 to 2002 . From 1980 to 1982 Zimper was state party secretary of the Lower Austrian ÖVP. Because of alleged involvement in the WBO scandal , he had to resign; in the last instance he was finally acquitted of large parts of the allegations. As mayor, he became deputy chairman of the ÖVP municipal representatives in 1992 and vice-president of the Austrian Association of Municipalities in 1999 . He held this office until 2007.

Since 1960 Zimper was a member of the Catholic student association KÖHV Neostadia Wiener Neustadt in the ÖCV .

From 1974 to 1982 he was a member of the Lower Austrian state parliament .

In 2003 the then Federal President Thomas Klestil awarded Walter Zimper the honorary title of "Professor" for the establishment of a "qualitative local press ".

Zimper's sons with Marliese include Walter Zimper jun. (1962-2010), Martin (* 1963). With Brigitte Zimper he has three children Daniela (* 1979), Michael (* 1981) and Christoph Zimper (* 1986).
