Walther Becker (born May 30, 1894 in Weidenau , Westphalia , † March 8, 1973 in Bad Godesberg ) was a German diplomat .

biography

Becker studied after school economics and political science at the University of Jena , the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and the University of Tübingen and graduated in 1920 with the promotion of Dr. rer. pole. from.

In 1921 he joined the diplomatic service as a research assistant and after a long period in the Foreign Office found employment at the diplomatic missions in New York City , Washington, DC and Rio de Janeiro , where he was appointed Legation Councilor 1st Class in 1939 . He then moved to the Embassy in Spain and was promoted to Counselor there in 1943 . Becker joined the NSDAP on November 1, 1935 .

After the end of the Second World War , between 1945 and 1951 he initially worked as a syndic in the private sector in Hamburg , before he returned to the diplomatic service in 1951 after the establishment of the Foreign Office and became deputy head of the department for trade policy . Nothing is known about its denazification . At the same time he was first deputy head of sub-department B, which was responsible for coordinating the economic department and trade relations with individual countries, and then in 1952 head of sub-department A, which dealt with general questions of trade policy.

Subsequently, he was from 1954 until his age-related dislocation in the retirement in 1959 ambassador to Egypt .
