Walther Jaenicke

Walther Jaenicke (born April 28, 1921 in Berlin ; † October 13, 2010 in Erlangen ) was a German chemist and university professor. He was a professor of physical chemistry at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg .

Life

Jaenicke studied chemistry and physics in Gießen and Leipzig from 1938 to 1943 and received his doctorate in Leipzig in 1946. He then worked as an assistant at the University of Jena , the Humboldt University in Berlin and at the Max Planck Institute for Physical Chemistry in Göttingen.

In 1952 he completed his habilitation at the TH Karlsruhe and worked as a lecturer and adjunct professor. From 1963 to 1988 Jaenicke was professor for physical chemistry at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. From 1972 to 1992 he was co-editor of the Zeitschrift für Physikalische Chemie .

Walther Jaenicke's father was Johannes Jaenicke , an employee of Fritz Haber . Walther Jaenicke's brother Lothar Jaenicke (1923–2015) was a professor of biochemistry at the University of Cologne. Another brother was the Regensburg biochemist Rainer Jaenicke (1930–2016).

His main research interests were homogeneous and heterogeneous kinetics, electrochemical processes, electron exchange reactions, solid-state reactions and scientific photography.

In 1997 Jaenicke was awarded the Bunsen Memorial Medal.
