Waltraud Schiffels

Waltraud Schiffels (born Walter Schiffels on April 12, 1944 in Saarbrücken ) is a German writer and Germanist .

Schiffels, born as the child of an engineer and a doctor for neurology , studied history , German literature , education and philosophy . In 1975, she was supported by the University of the Saarland in the subject German doctorate , where they then took up a teaching activities. After their divorce he appeared temporarily as a transvestite , in 1988 gender reassignment measures and the official adoption of the first name Waltraud took place. Waltraud Schiffels had been the head of the culture department at the Volkshochschule of the Saarbrücken regional association since the 1980s .

Waltraud Schiffels' main focus as a writer is transsexuality , which affects her herself. Autobiographical books against this background are Frau werden, von Walter zu Waltraud (1992) and Ich bin Zwei (1993). In her novel Im Rock (1990) she also incorporated some autobiographical experiences. She wrote regional historical narratives with Der Vampyr von St. Johann (1990) and Saarbrücker Hexen (1991). Together with Barbara Kamprad, Waltraud Schiffels edited the anthology In the wrong body: Everything about transsexuality in 1991 .
