Waltzes from Vienna is a British fictional film by director Alfred Hitchcock from 1934 based on the play of the same name by Guy Bolton . It is about the two composers Johann Strauss (father) and son . The film has not yet been dubbed in German; its title means "waltz from Vienna".

action

The film is about Johann Strauss the Younger, who is forced by his father, Johann Strauss the Elder, to work in a bakery, although he would much rather make music. He falls in love with Resi. Strauss is asked by a rich countess to compose a waltz for her. He composes “ On the beautiful blue Danube ”, although Resi is becoming increasingly jealous.

  • The focus of the film is on the Strauss family of composers. It was the first sound film that deals with the life of Strauss, although the style of the film is still strongly based on silent films.
  • The basis was the English theater comedy "Waltzes from Vienna", which was played over two years in London.
  • Hitchcock staged Waltzes from Vienna after he broke his contract with British International Pictures after a few years of success and shortly before his most successful English phase began with The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934) .
