Wamé (also: Ouamé ) is a rural community in the Damagaram Takaya department in Niger .

geography

Wamé is in the Sahel . The neighboring communities are Tanout in the north, Alakoss in the northeast, Damagaram Takaya in the east, Albarkaram in the southeast, Dakoussa in the southwest and Olléléwa in the northwest. The municipality is divided into 39 administrative villages, 74 traditional villages, 72 hamlets and a camp. The main town of the rural municipality is the administrative village of Wamé (also: Kagna Wamé, Kagna Ouamé).

history

The French colonial administration established a canton in Wamé at the beginning of the 20th century , which was administered from the traditional seat of power ( French : chefferie traditionnelle ) in the neighboring village of Dakoussa. In 2002, as part of a nationwide administrative reform, the canton became the rural municipality of Wamé. Since 2011 the rural community no longer belongs to the Mirriah department , but to the newly founded Damagaram Takaya department.

population

At the 2001 census, Wamé had 23,317 inhabitants. For the year 2010 31,659 inhabitants were calculated. Members of the Fulbe subgroup Oudah'en , which mainly operates remote grazing, live in the Wamé .
