The Wanderer W 15 6/30 PS is a passenger car from the Wanderer brand and was positioned in the middle class . The model was manufactured from March to October 1932 at the Siegmar plant near Chemnitz (from mid-1932 under the direction of the newly founded Auto Union ). The Wanderer W 15 was the successor to the W 10 / IV model built by Wanderer-Werke from September 1930 . The W 15, offered as a sedan or convertible , differs from its predecessor in that it has a 20 cm longer wheelbase , which enabled 6 instead of 4 windows in the sedan. The bodies of the limousines came from Reutter in Stuttgart, while the chassis of the convertibles were fitted with the convertible body from Glasses in Dresden.
The W 15 has the overhead - steered four - cylinder in - line engine of its predecessor with 1.6 liter displacement . The engine installed in the front with three crankshaft bearings and a chain-driven camshaft on the side develops 30 hp and drives the rear wheels via an unsynchronized three-speed gearbox with a shift lever in the middle of the car. The vehicle with a U-profile frame has leaf-sprung rigid axles at the front and rear as well as cable-operated brakes.
The Wanderer W 17 7/35 PS with the same body and chassis came out as a successor in October 1932. The 1.7-liter six-cylinder engine with 35 hp, newly developed by Ferdinand Porsche , has a crankshaft with seven bearings and a side camshaft with spur gear drive . The rear wheels are driven via the unsynchronized four-speed gearbox.
The Wanderer W 20 8/40 PS with a more powerful 2-liter six-cylinder engine and 40 PS, also a Porsche design, completed the range.
A total of 750 cars were produced. The successors were the W 21 and W 22 (Porsche Type 7) presented in February 1933 with torsion bar spring axles at the front, "swing axle" ( pendulum axle ) at the rear and the hydraulically operated "oil pressure brake" from ATE (license Lockheed ).
