The Wandersmann-Süd-Tunnel (also: Tunnel Wandersmann Süd ) is a 799 m long tunnel on the Breckenheim – Wiesbaden line on the southern edge of Wallau (municipality of Hofheim am Taunus ) to connect Wiesbaden to the high-speed Cologne – Rhine / Main line (from and towards Cologne).

It is located in the north-eastern part of the 13 km long route that connects the state capital Wiesbaden to the high-speed route towards Cologne . In doing so, he also drives under the federal motorway 66 in a northeastern direction near Wiesbaden .

The tunnel takes on two tracks with line train control , which can be driven on as planned at 160 km / h.

Naming

The tubes are named Wandersmann after a sandstone obelisk , which is a memorial to the street built between Wiesbaden and Frankfurt in 1813 under Friedrich Augustus Duke of Nassau . After a construction hut was located at this location during the construction phase, an inn was opened, which was renamed Zum Wandersmann in 1850 . The building was demolished in 1958. The Wandersmann obelisk is now located between the A66 and A3 on the Wallau side, after having been moved twice (most recently in 1982).

course

The north portal is 1.9 kilometers, the south portal 2.7. Trough structures connect to the tube on both sides . The overburden when underpassing the Autobahn 66 is 5.2 m. The underpassing of the Autobahn occurs approximately at the point east of the Wickerbach , where the aforementioned Zum Wandersmann inn had been.

To the northeast, the Wandersmann-Nord-Tunnel connects to the tube, at the north portal of which the connecting line enters the high-speed line via switches .

history

planning

At the end of 1995 the planned length of the structure was 850 m.

In 1998 the planned length of the tunnel was 925 m.

construction

The tunnel was built using the cut-and-cover method.

In mid-1998 the excavation pits for the tunnel were under construction.

For the construction of the tunnel, the route of the adjacent motorway was to be laid over a length of 400 m for 21 months.

Half of the construction pit was built in water-bearing layers, made of stiff clay , on sloping side walls. Roads and watercourses were under the protection of a bored pile wall . The groundwater level was partly sealed off by sheet piling and partly relaxed. Formwork and concreting were carried out in block lengths of ten meters.

The flat-based structure was provided with spurs to protect against buoyancy .

During the construction phase, the lanes of the A 66 and the L 3017 state road were changed several times.

As part of an open tunnel day, more than 2500 people visited the construction sites of the Wandersmann North and South tunnels.
