Inflow of the Hohenstief to the Wangertief near Horumersiel

The Wangertief is a low in Horumersiel , a district of the municipality of Wangerland in the district of Friesland in the north of Lower Saxony .

The approximately 100 meter wide inland water in Jeverland , through which inland water flows into the North Sea , extends in a north-south direction over a length of about 2.2 kilometers.

It was built in 1971–1973 and collects the water from Crildumer Tief , Wüppelser Tief , Hohenstief and Horumer Tief .

To the east in the center the Hohenstief joins the Wangertief. In Horumersiel, the water pours through a port at the northern end into the Wanger outer depth , which has access to the inner jade and thus to the North Sea.

The Wangertief with the Wangersiel replaces in particular the sewer chambers in Hohenstiefersiel and Crildumersiel, but also in Horumersiel; these sluices worked purely depending on the tides and were not always able to adequately drain the inland areas, especially during autumn storms.
