length 5 km

The Hohenstief is a low in the municipality of Wangerland in the district of Friesland in the north of Lower Saxony .

The approximately 5 km long watercourse in Jeverland , through which inland water flows into the North Sea , arises from the confluence of the Poggenburger Leide and Bübbenser Tief bei Hodens.

It then flows in an easterly direction and through St. Joost .

Until the commissioning of the Wangersiel in Horumersiel , the Hohenstief flowed into the Jade in Hohenstiefersiel.

One kilometer east of St. Joost flows into the Crildumer Tief from the south . The Hohenstief then continues to flow in a northeasterly direction, takes up the Horumer Tief flowing through Horumersiel from the left and flows into the Wangertief , which finally flows into the North Sea at Horumersiel.

In earlier times the low was mainly used for drainage and as a traffic route, today it is also used for recreational sports such as paddling and fishing .
