Wao ( Filipino : Bayan ng Wao ) is a Filipino municipality in the province of Lanao del Sur , Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. It has 45,862 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census) who lived in 26 barangays . It is classified as a second income class community in the Philippines and as partially urbanized .
Wao is located in the southwest of the province, about 254 kilometers by road southeast of Marawi City , at the foot of the Ragang volcano . Their neighboring communities are Kalilangan and Pangantucan in the east, Bumbaran in the northwest, Banisilan and Alamada in the south.
